Can't decide between being a kickboxer or Skateboarder?

I've been told to pursue both but I understand that in order to achieve one of these goals I have to dedicate all my time to said goal. I am 18 years old and in my first year in college for computer engineering but I really don't want to pursue that as a career.

Now I absolutely love skateboarding (I've been doing it for 5 years) and i'm rather good at it. I go outside to practice in hopes that one day I will be sponsored and enter contests.

However recently I've seemed to pick up a knack for martial arts and I really, really enjoy kickboxing/boxing at my local gym and wanted to consider it as a career. For the past year I've been training hard for it and entering competitions that my class goes too.

I want computer engineering to be a back up plan, but as far as a main goal, i'm stuck between the two things I love. Which one should I choose to pursue? This is a very hard choice for me to make.

...said every loser still living in his mother's basement.

Neither of those activities are likely to payoff as a profession and certainly not as a career. Unless you are WINNING at competitions at 18, you will be in the middle of a very tall pyramid. Stick with your backup plan if you actually want to be able to afford a decent place to live and food to eat. With the money you earn from computer engineering you can spend your time on whatever hobbies you like.

    EDIT:

Yes don't listen to the guy who IS a computer engineer with a great income that allows him to travel and engage in whatever hobbies he wants to. Listen to the guy that is still in high school because he knows everything about real life and is an expert on professional fighting and skateboarding.

    Which makes you feel happier?

Both are those kinds of challenges that are "hard to achieve but are attainable"

Both of those involve pain, struggle, long hours of practice with great personal reward & satisfaction (I never got into any kind of fighting though but I have friends that do)

If you love both equally then do both, it can be difficult to juggle them depending on how your life is set for you. Each can be tiring to do the other.

Me personally if I were you I'd try to take the time to do a pro's & con's list of each based on what what they bring you now, what they may bring you in the future & how they each make you feel.

But I'm not you so do what you will mang!

Whatever, don't listen to what the other guy said. If YOU want to do something with your life instead of sitting at a boring cubicle then do it! Like I'm sure you've heard a gazillion times before, life is short. And as far as anyon knows you only get one shot at it so make it how you'd like it to be.

As for your question, both activities can be challenging to get a sponsor but since you already have experience with skateboarding, I would say chose that one. Although, kickboxing can be very rewarding if you can get the "gig". Most of the time you have to do an "audition" to be a professional kickboxer.
