What is wrong with my dog's ear?

The inside flap of my dog's ear is swollen.

Does anyone know what is wrong with it?

Sounds like it could be an Aural Hematoma (sounds much worse than it is)

Basically a blood filled pocket in his year.

My dog had one a few years ago. We tried draining it, but it filled right back up. So he had to have it drained again, then the blanket stitches put it. Healed up fine and hasn't had any problems since. The only way you can tell is the flap of that ear feels a TINY bit thicker than the other ear. If you didn't know, you couldn't tell.

A friends dog had one, and they didn't take the dog to the vet. The dog shook it's head, opened up the flat and blood flew everywhere. She even had blood on her ceiling.

It is a hematoma caused by dog constantly shaking its head, probably from an ear infection. The ear infection you can handle yourself just by doing constant ear cleanings with a good ear wash. 3 times a day for a week, 2 times a day for a week & once a day for a week. It should be cleared up if you cleaned it properly.

The hematoma has to be treated by a Vet. There is a vein that is bleeding into a pocket in the ear flap, the lump is all blood. It needs to be cut open, the bleeder cauterized & the ear will need to be cleaned out & stitched closed.

Since you have to go to a Vet any way, might as well have him/her treat the ear infection to.

Smell the ears, stinks don't it.

Sounds very much like a hematoma which is basically a blood filled blister caused by a hard knock or injury to the ear. Treatment depends on what the vet deems the best for the dog. My Gsd had a hematoma on the inside of his ear and I left it to reabsorb (vets advice) which resulted in him now having a cauliflower ear. It did not bother me as he was quite old at the time and not a show dog.

They can be drained, but often fill up again with blood. Your vet can tell you what the best treatment is for your individual dog.

Likely an infection. See a vet.

Try calling the veterinarian or if the veterinarian is closed try calling their emergency number.
