Red Sox sign Chris Capuano. Your thoughts?

Red Sox have signed national league pitcher Chris Capuano. He is 35 and has had tommy john surgery twice.

Do you think he will help us now that Dempster is gone? I am not sure about a pitcher who has had tommy john surgery twice.

Update:

Hey scooter I agree 100%. The second i heard he had TJ twice i was leary

Doesn't sound like a good deal to me but we will see.

Capuano is more of an insurance policy than anything else. I don't think he has what it takes to start in the AL though, especially not the AL East. He's not the type of pitcher that will miss many bats for sure. He's allowed a little over a hit per inning in his career, and even more last year. His K rate is also slipping. That being said, he isn't meant to really be someone they depend on unless they have injury issues, which is always possible with Buchholz and Peavy in the rotation.

Let's take a look at his 2013 numbers....

    105.2 IP, -0.6 WAR, 3.55 FIP, 3.67 FIP, 1.41 WHIP, 6.9 K/9, 2.0 BB/9, 10.6 H/9, 0.9 HR/9

Slightly below average pitcher. Coasted the Dodgers .6 of a win Almost granted to give up a long ball per game. Has good control, a pretty solid FIP and xFIP compared to his 4.26 E.R.A.

The pick up could go either way. He could be a good pick up and pitch fairly well, or just bust.

Source(s): Good luck with him. I'm a Dodgers fan

It could be a good move, he pitched well for the Mets a few years ago.

Well, he actually could give them 10 wins.

They should have signed Santana instead.
