How can I get this stubborn ice off my sidewalk?

This part of the sidewalk is about a block in length. I'm in Wisconsin and the sun never hits about half of it. It's also the recipient of melt because of a severe slope. It melted and rained about 4 days ago and I've used about 15 lbs of salt on it. I've been able to chip away at the part that gets a little sun. I've pried that of wiggle a metal shovel but I can't get the rest off. It seems like most everybody is able to clear there's but the geography is a bit different for them as we'll. any advice?

    Put down a de-icer.

You can continue to use Rock salt which is cheap. The downside is that it is hard on plants. There is Calcium chloride, but it can be hard on plants too. Potassium chloride is also available. Many de-icers are mixtures of several salts.

At the other end of the spectrum is CMA or Calcium magnesium acetate which is a little more expensive but it won't kill your plants.

If your de-icer is washing away with the rain, you will have to re-apply.

To improve traction, you can put down sand, perlite, kitty litter, or fine pine bark mulch.
