How long should I wait to dye my hair again?

I dyed it for the first time just a few hours ago. I know you have to wait to have 2-3 day old hair to dye it, but my hair came out wrong. I have dark brown hair and I wanted to dye it really red without bleaching it (I used the l'oreal paris feria cherry crush dye), but I did it wrong. Only my roots and some strands came out red, and the rest stayed the same. I followed the instructions but I think I didn't use enough of the dye (considering I have a lot of hair). I want to do it again because I've been wanting red hair for a while and I'm impatient. So should I just buy it again and wait two or three days or do I have to wait for a while?

Update:

May I also say that I'm financially unequipped to go to a professional every time I want to dye my hair. Even my Walmart hair salon costs $44 to dye hair.

After using permanent hair color you are supposed to wait 4-6 weeks to use it again. You could use demi permanent hair color to put over it. It lasts about 6 weeks and it is not damaging to hair. Since you haven't dyed your hair before though it shouldn't damage it too much if you do it again, just make sure if you do that, that you buy some deep conditioning treatments to use after to make sure your hair stays healthy. Unfortunately color doesn't life color so if you want to lighten it now you will have to bleach it. I would recommend buying hair color from a beauty supply store, because there you mix it yourself and get to pick the level of developer you mix with it. The people at the store would help you if you explain your situation and what you want. The hair color there is also a lot better for your hair because it is made with less harsh chemicals than boxed color you will buy at stores. Good luck!

I would suggest going to a professional, they know what they are doing.
