“cannot afford both” probably best to go with the PS4 then. Could go into detail about why, but I would rather reply to Dave. My conclusion however was based heavily on the assumption of your budget (guessing it’s less than $600).
@Dave
Well Dave, you asked so here’s what I can come up with off the top of my head.
List of non-ported originally published for PC Games that I have paid for hard copies of and, would again.
World of Warcraft – Purchased hard copies of the original and The Burning Crusade. WotLK and Cata were bought digital.
Guild Wars – GW1 Trilogy and GW2 purchased hard copies of.
Doom series – Hard copies of Doom 1 & 2. Though Doom 2 (1994) was released to the Game Boy in 2002, and finally joined the Xbox and PlayStation communities in 2010 and 2012.
Arma series – I don’t own 1, but purchased 2 hard copy and 3 digital.
Battlefield series – Yup the Battlefield series started out as PC only, with Battlefield 1942, followed up by Battlefield 2; own hard copies of both as well as Battlefield 2142.
The Witcher 1
Diablo series – Own hard copies of all 3 and LoD expansion. Reaper of Souls expansion was purchased digital.
Team Fortress – I don’t know why I purchased these hard copies.
Civilization series – All of them on hard copy.
Age of Empires series – Again all owned hard copy.
Warcraft series – all own hard copy and the expansion sets.
Warhammer 40,000 DoW – purchased hard copy of.
Rome: Total War
There are many many more I would pay for a hard copy of, but why should I? Why would I leave my home, drive to a store (using gas), sit in line to see the face on some fat miserable f**k behind the cash register, pay tax, and drive all the way back home (more gas)? Why do that when I can just click buy now, and download the game from the comfort of a recliner (chair or couch whichever you prefer) in my nice cool (cold) room away from the 90 degree 100% humidity outside world?
I don’t Hack or Exploit glitches, I don’t Cheat in online or multiplayer games; these types of things are typically against the ToS and will/should be reported. I do Mod games that allow modding, like The Elder Scrolls series and Fallout series to enhance gameplay with things like floral overhaul, 4k texture packs, nude bodies, and other cosmetic mods. Lastly, I will never illegally download a game; stealing is against the law and I actually have integrity.
Your answer on this matter seems more biased towards console gaming, I can point out about a half dozen cues that lead me to believe you know little/nothing about PC gaming.

It all depends on what you play and how. Consoles are hands down easier to play on because they are specialized gaming PCs. You pop in the game without needing to do much else besides play. Both are excellent ways to play but I am in favor of PC over console gaming any day.
Sure you can upgrade your PC every so often but people seem to think it's mandatory. My older rig hasn't been upgraded in a little over a year and a half and the thing runs just fine. I may not be able to play some of the newest games on ultra high but unlike my master race brothers I am content playing on the same level as console gamers(which is basically the High settings on PC).
The only advantages PC gaming has over consoles are the mods and online gaming. Sure PSN and XBL are great but online gaming started as a PC thing and it is still a superior on a PC. Of course mods don't need to be explained, you can download stuff to give an old game new life or change it up completely.
I'd say go with the PS4 for now. This console gen will be the last true console gen. The PS4 and Xbox One are nothing more than a stripped down gaming PC with low end parts.

You don't need to...
If u want long lasting solution with premium updates & no consideration for graphics then go with PS4
Otherwise stick to PC for limited time performance... (some games are only made for console platform only)

in general PC gaming is batter.Reasons for this include availability of basically every game, better control and not only that but you can do more while gaming on a PC.

PC is better but you have to upgrade every few years if you don't have a high end gaming PC.

Microsoft's Xbox One & Sony's PlayStation 4 are exactly the same, for those who still haven't caught on the Microsoft Kinect does not have to be connected to Microsoft's Xbox One and is optional although it comes with the console unlike Sony's PlayStation Camera. Which explains the Price changes between the two consoles, it all depends on the Video Games you want. There are more actual Exclusives on Microsoft's Xbox One then there is Sony's PlayStation 4, most of Sony's PlayStation 4 games will be ported to Microsoft's Xbox One (Final Fantasy/Kingdom Heart III). It is up to you and what Exclusives you want, do not listen to the Conspiracy theory hype.
I've reviewed One Exclusive Video Game from both Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4.
Guerrilla Game's Killzone: Shadow Fall for Sony's PlayStation 4 and Capcom's Dead Rising 3 for Microsoft's Xbox One.
Guerrilla Games's Killzone: Shadow Fall has Brilliant Visuals and is a technical Masterpiece for Sony's PlayStation 4 with Interesting variety during Levels, Killzone: Shadow Fall uses the mechanics within Sony's PlayStation 4 Controller during Audio Logs which are very well done. But there are a few problems within the Game, the Game Mechanics are mediocre First Person Shooter that we've seen a lot before. There are a lot of Wave type levels and a lot of padding through out levels, which is made even more difficult with the Objective Marker that blends into the surroundings. When I reviewed Guerrilla Game's Killzone: Shadow Fall I gave it an Mediocre 5 out of 10, not really worth your purchase.
Capcom's Dead Rising 3 was a masterpiece, Visually & Gameplay wise. I didn't have a single issue with Capcom's Dead Rising 3, when I reviewed the Capcom's Dead Rising 3 I gave it a well deserved 10 out of 10 and well worth your purchase.
I've been reviewing Video Games for years, nobody has proven me wrong as of yet that the only reason people get into PC Gaming is to Hack, Cheat, Glitch, Mod or Download The PC Ports Illegally simple because they are cheap and easily accessible. There aren't very many non-ported PC Games that people would hand sixty dollars over for, plus dealing with specs and wondering if The PC Game you bought will work on your overly expensive Gaming PC is a waste of time. Personally I prefer to buy a game and know that it will work on the Video Game System I bought it for.
For those who disagree. Please list Non-Ported Originally published for PC Games that you'd hand sixty bucks over to own in a physical non-downloaded form, in other words No Valve's Steam. Now factor in how many Hacks, Glitches, Cheats & Mods are within this Non-Ported Originally Published for PC Game that you'd hand sixty bucks over to own in a physical non-downloaded form.
Not to mention having to deal with Specs, updates and other things costly for PC Gaming.
