Based on what does a HS coach assign you for positions?

Are there tryouts before? I'll be playing this year as a sophomore, but I haven't played in years so idk how it works.

He will put players where he feels the team will have the best opportunity to win. He may not always be right but that's what he'll try to do.

Based on where you can do the most for the team. We ran drills for the first few days to see what our players were like. Then we put the best players where they we thought they should play. We filled in with the best available players from there.

Tryouts depend on the team. Most teams don't cut anyone.

I highly encourage you to join your high school football team next season. My best advice for you is to work hard and perform very well in practice every day. In addition, what you need to do this (and every) offseason is eat healthy, exercise by doing weight lifting, and either jogging or going for a long run every day. If you do these things, you will get faster, stronger, and into better shape, which will greatly improve your chances of becoming a successful, top notch high school football player, who could go on to play college football.

By the way, your chances of playing college football depend on your performance in football during your sophomore, junior, and especially senior, years of high school. If you perform very well in football during your final 3 years of high school, you will greatly improve your chances of getting recruited to play for a college football program in the future.

Source(s): Your coach will decide what position you play, and even whether (or not) you make the team, based on your performance during tryouts.

when i played in high school the coach asked you what number you wanted to be and then he assigned you a position based on your number. I played with 52 and was a outside linebacker / defensive end.
