You "should" have a receipt for the transaction to say that it is taxed, however you can still be charged with not displaying a valid tax disc when the police pull you over.

In short, you can ride it when the tax disc arrives in the post, if you had done it at the post office you could ride it now.

If you try now you Will get pulled by the first Police you go by that has its Automatic Number Plate Recognition system turned On. It reads your N/P then checks the Data Bases and alerts them to anything that does not have Valid Insurance, MOT or Road Tax. And of course the registered keeper and Licence.

You do not say when you requested it to start from ? As they don't normally back date them in case someone is caught without and trying to get it back dated to escape prosecution.

To be honest I would have done it at the Post Office as you would have walked out with the disc as proof that you had Tax.

Best wait until is shows on the On-Line status as taxed as they can also charge you with failing to display a Valid Tax Disc.

By law it says "must show valid TAX" while driving, if you get stopped and yet to receive TAX disc but its paid and on the way it's up to the police officer to show discretion or not.

I drive about with no TAX displayed which is a risk I take knowing its up to the police if they stop me butting will come up on their system as paid for TAX.
