Cook times for 7-lb pork shoulder?

Can't decide between oven and slow cooker. How long should I cook this in a slow cooker, and if I decide on the oven, how long and what temperature? TIA!

Slow and low for a pork shoulder.

    Oven 250 - 275 degrees F.

    8 to 10 hours

Use seasoning rub before you cook it.

No sauce until you serve it.

Use the oven. That's simply going to take too long in a slow cooker. Put it in a suitable dish or pot and pre-heat your oven to 325 degrees. If it's pre-cooked, it'll only need about an hour and a half at that temperature to heat through. It it's raw, pre-heat the oven to 350 and cook it until it reaches an INTERNAL temperature of 165 degrees. If you don't have a meat thermometer, your local grocery will have one - and it will be quite inexpensive. Time? To cook it from raw, expect about two and a half hours at 350 degrees.

A 7 lb pork shoulder should slow cook not oven bake. This is the same cut of meat used for pulled pork. Allow about 6 to 8 hours on low in a slow cooker. When done correctly pulling on the bone will actually pull clean. The rest is one hog heaven of pulled pork.

    Season it well before hand.

Cook your pork shoulder at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for about 75 minutes per pound. Make sure it is covered and begin checking it with a meat thermometer after the first 7 hours. you will want an internal temperature of 165 degrees in the center of the thickest part of the meat (not close to the bone). Allow the meat to "rest" for at least 30 minutes after you pull it from the oven, and it should fall apart with ease.

TIP: this technique also works well with turkeys (allow one hour per pound for them).

I always roast any joint of meat this size. As a general rule it's 30 minutes per lb plus 30 mins. So you would roast it in the oven for 2hrs 40 at Gas mark 8, or 200 degrees C.

Season your meat well. Put in crock pot with about 1 cup liquid such as water or beef broth. I use my crock pot all the time and meat turns out real tender falls apart mmm good:) Cook on low for 8 hours. Don't open lid because it will take longer to cook if you open it.
