    "my step dad adopted them"

You apparently don't get what happens in an ADOPTION.

If a man adopts a child.. they BECOME his by law, meaning he is also the person who will pay child support. The birth certificate is amended to show that person.

If someone signs a birth cert, thinking he is the bio father.. then at any time, if mother files against him, then he can request dna testing. The court will then determine if he is liable. If he has raised the children for many years.. some courts will consider that to be enough to MAKE him the legal father, since he accepted paternity by signature.

You should not have asked him to sign the birth certificate. Who taught you to be so dishonest? You should correct the birth certificate immediately. The child will grow up and will probably want to know who his/her real father is, especially if he/she gets into genealogy research.

If you go after the bf for child support, he can later have you charged with fraud. A DNA test will prove that he is not the father. Legally, you must go after the "real" father of the child. Not some boyfriend, who may be around in the years to come or may not be.

If you don't go after the real father, you're a ******* horrible human being. Why the **** are you trying to saddle some other guy with some other guy's burden? Or do you just sleep with so many guys that you don't even know who the father is?

Go after the real father. If your boyfriend signs teh birth certificate, he can still just petition the court for a DNA test and prove he's not. Then, if they find out you knew he wasn't the father and wanted to go after him for child support anyway, you go to jail>

I hope you lose custody of your kids, you're obviously a horrible human being and shouldn't be allowed to raise children.

Just signing the birth certificate no....but in SOME states if he starts financially supporting the child, you can later get court order support, even if DNA test later prove he isnt the father

Oh what a tangled web we weave when at first we practice to deceive. Do you think you can keep the lid on who the real father is? This will be found out and the consequences will be horrible. Your child will hate you. The real father will hate you. The paternal grandparents of the fake father and real father will hate you. Your parents won't hate you. But they will be angry too.

Go after the real father. He has a right to know he has a child. Your child deserves to know who the real father is.

Signing a birth certificate and adopting are two very different things. You say he ADOPTED teh children, that means he took them as his own BY HIS choice knowing they weren't his. Letting some dude sign the birth certificate when you know he isn't the father is totally different.

The court would order child support from whomever has established a parental tie. If a man is so close that the child calls him "daddy"' and the man does not object, then he will become liable for child support.

He openly and willingly accepted the role of father.

Now it gets tricky, with a biological, AND self proclaimed father figure

If he signed the birth certificate, I assume he met the mother when she was pregnant. That signing would be a clear statement of intent, I WANT TO BE THE FATHER.

Now you state he married the mother, shows intent of creating a family.

The mother is in a great position. She can pursue whom she wants (the easiest target), your father

If he isn't the biological father he could petition the court to have his name removed from the birth certificate. You would then need to contact the biological father for child support.

The real father... You cant just get money from anyone involved with the kids life, legally the biological father is on the hook for support.
