Because the manufacturers of douches spent a great deal of money and effort convincing them that the undouched vagina is dirty (untrue) and foul-smelling (also untrue).
One of the earliest advertised uses of Lysol was as a douche.

Women shouldn't even use douche cause after sex if there is sperm in them douching will only push it further in them and could cause pregnancy even though they did it to prevent pregnancy. Well they use it to clean out the vagina after sexual intercourse.
