How difficult is it? Ridiculously easy. Once you've written the book and created a cover (or paid someone to create a cover for you), you upload those, fill in a simple form to tell Amazon how to pay you, set the price, wait about 12 hours while they review it, and there you are - it's on sale.
You used to have to convert the book to one of the file formats that the Kindle supports (and it's still best to do that, to give yourself the greatest control over the book's layout) but now you can upload a Microsoft Word document, and Amazon will convert it for you.
