Is the following statement problematic for Putin?
A military invasion is not the same an internal struggle between the people and an oppressive government. A "referendum|" carried out under the bayonets of a foreign army of occupation on 10 day notice is not legitimate. The governance of Ukraine is a matter for Ukrainians to decide without interference from outside powers. When the territorial integrity of a country is violated by armed invasion, the international community has a shared interest in supporting the victim of aggression and punishing the aggressor.

The statement should in fact be problematic for anyone interested in democracy. The government in the Ukraine at the moment is not democratically elected, but rather appointed and approved by foreign governments with their own agendas. A government which would be willing to show aggression to Russians bought in Crimea and Russia. To suggest that a military that has been there since before Crimea was part of the Ukraine, is an invasion is nothing more than political double talk. The International community has a responsibility to support democracy and stop allowing those that lie and would destroy it, to deceive us.
With International observers calling it fair and open, with 80% voting, over 95% called for Russia.
