What kinda stuff should I rap about?
I've been able to freestyle and stuff but I decided to write my first rap on paper today and I just stood there looking at that paper with absolutely no idea what to write about man. I think actually having the paper there and writing it down is kind of intimidating me and I just can't get a thing.

As a rapper, I have this problem a lot. As do a lot of writers. My recommendations are as follows.
-Wait. Sometimes it helps just to wait for something to come to you.
-Think about what you're passionate about. When someone speaks to you about an issue and you have all kinds of thoughts and dialogue that comes out, then you're passionate about it. Instead of having an argument, put your thoughts on paper. This can be for current events, past events, life, family, education, job, significant others, friends, animals, whatever really.
-Listen to music that inspires you. The words don't have to be inspiring. It can be the beat, lyrics, rhyme scheme, or whatever you find in the music that you want to try. It's okay to use other people's ideas as long as you make them your own. Trust me, every idea has already been said or sang before anyway and they got it from someone else too. Don't be a biter though. I'd rather listen to something unoriginal and boring than listen to you biting someone else's lyrics.
-Do anything that inspires you. Food, swimming, reading, whatever it is, do it, then write down your thoughts and ideas afterwards. Sometimes the rhymes come first and you think about the ideas later but when you have writer's block a lot of times it's easier to get the idea first and think about the lyrics later.
-Write until your hand falls off (that's what I call it at least). I'm sure there's a technical term but I don't know it. The idea is just to write (or type) and don't stop to think. Your pen must always be writing. Eventually you will come up with something to write about. Remember, don't stop, even if it's gibberish. It works.
-Try something new. Try out a new rhyme scheme that you haven't used before. For an easy example, use multisyllable rhymes (earthquake with birth state), rhymes that aren't exact rhymes (life with light), or different rhyme styles (a, b, a, a, b, b, or limericks, there's many many that you can try)
-Write down your ideas as they come to you, not just when you're trying to write. This way you can come back to them as you need to. I use my phone a lot because it's with me wherever I go. I also use my computer or even a piece of paper if I need to. You'll appreciate this later because you'll think of a lot of good ideas when you are not trying to write at all and think to yourself "I should write about this".

you should just rap about life. that's what all the people who do freestyle i know do. but keep it clean if you're going to perform for other people though. and if you're having trouble cause of the paper then just think of verses and write them down later. as the saying goes; first answers, questions later.

Have you tried singing? I find it fare more beautiful than someone swearing and rhyming as low beat tones beat in the background.
