pap smear abnormal?
Hi im 27 years old and I need some advise im quiet scared worried I was due for my pap smear test was called back in as it was abnormal and it said possible high grade squamous lesion and I have to go have colposcopy and biopsy recommend my last 2 pap smears were fine and they used a new thin prep pap I think its called I was reading if theres any irritation ect it can give a positive reading for cells abnormal my dr told me no thats not true but some how I think hes wrong has anyone been in the same situation and what treatment do they do do u think this could be a wrong reading pleaas help me ease my mind

There is no reason to be scared! If it is a high grade lesion, it is easily treatable. That is why we have pap smears regularly, so we can catch these things before they become a real threat. While inflammation can lead to false positive abnormal pap smears, it is rarely signed out as anything other than atypia of undetermined significance and will be followed up with HPV testing to confirm the abnormal result.
