Why have changes been made to Yahoo Answers that make it harder to use?

For some reason, you can only read the first two lines of a question now unless you click a "show more" link. This change was made a week or so ago I think and it can prevent people from noticing that there is more description in the question. The "show more" link doesn't even appear until the page is fully loaded. Why has this change been made?

I took a screenshot of a particularly egregious example of this bad design. I had to click 6 times to read everything where before I would have been able to read it all without clicking on links.

    Adverts

All the changes we have seen are geared to making it easy for us to see the paid adverts that Yahoo inserts.

Have you seen those 3 ads that appear after the question ??

Having a question that runs to half a page, or a whole page -- would push the adverts down to the bottom of the page or even onto the next page.

tsk tsk tsk -- couldn't have that, now, could we.

Those advertisers are charged premium rates if there ad appears 1st as opposed to 2nd or 3rd.

And they pay Yahoo "per click"

    So it is a dilemma.

If you click on them it will justify Yahoo's putting them there.

If you DON'T click on them it may mean Yahoo will go out of business and - sob sob - no more YAnswers.

I thought it was a glitch and only I (along with some others) had it. If it's a feature it absolutely has to go. I think yahoo has definitely underestimated mobile devices. Regardless of device it makes no sense for anyone to read 2 lines. Either you see the question and description and you click on it to see the whole question or you don't and keep scrolling down the list no matter what device you're on.

So if it's a matter of functional site vs advertising, it would seem advertising has won out if they are going to place ads there (no, I don't see them).

Well. It certainly is NOT easy to read on my smartphone. I'm having a lot of trouble navigating this horrible new purple website. I don't feel like answering or asking questions anymore. It's depressing being on here. I really miss the green YA. It was so much easier to use.

I can't fathom a reason, really. It's almost impossible to use now. I can't find stuff, lots of glitches, and stuff not working. It would be fine if these things were happening for just a day, but this has been going on for a while now and I'm really tired of it. I would think Yahoo could afford some fast and efficient developers. If not, then they can be found for free at a university. I know plenty of people at my uni who would love to work on the site just to have it on their resume. It's just SO frustrating!

Yeah, it's really annoying. I don't see how it could possible be beneficial to anyone. I have had so many problems with this site lately. I wish Y!A would just go back to the green layout. :/
