Tourism and Paris?

Why are there so many people in Paris who are opposed to tourism? And why are they nearly always so very rude to tourists in their city? Tourism is worth billions and everyone benefits from it even those who are not directly involved, because the income from tourism spending boosts the local economy like no other method.

That tagging was done by self styled anarchists, they hate everybody and are never so happy than when defacing buildings having to do with authority or religion.

The Montmartre church is one of the most visited places by tourists in Paris, which is why the so called anarchists also wrote that little note about the tourists in addition to all the rest.

I do hope you fully realize that Paris a city o 2.3 million, will receive this year close to 28 million visitors, who come form just about every country on this globe. The vast majority do not speak or understand that the language of France, happens to be called French. Of those 2.3 million, only a relatively small percentage are employed in the tourist industry. The others are just attempting to make life as agreeable as possible, families, getting to work, medical problems, how to put the baguettes on the table for tomorrow's breakfast. Sure, some might at times seem rude or do not care about you or your touristy problems especially if you are overbearing and rude to them and might ask them in a totally foreign language; "Where do I get the bus to see Mickey Mouse? What;s a good cheap restaurant near that Champ;s street?. Is there a queue at Versailles?, Why is your coffee so strong?" on and on. No I really think that the average Parisian has extraordinary patience.

I lived in paris for 8 years, my french is so limited and appalling i would never pass for a local, I did not find the people at all like you are describing, in fact i would say they are far friendlier than the english. I suppose it could just be that I am so devastatingly handsome that they all get a bit flustered in my presence and just can't do enough to ingratiate themselves to me, but tbh I think that would be stretching the bounds of credulity in search of an answer.

It's far more complex that that...

It's about the place, the history and the attitude of the Church in today's business... not tourism...

If you don't know the history of Paris, you can't understand this act.

I have been to Paris several times, and I have NEVER experienced that type of rudeness. That guy hasn't a clue. Probably thinks his mother never loved him or something.
