Hands down the Flowers in the Attic series by V.C. Andrews. The most amazing book I have read!

The Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell. This is a book that every American should read to understand his/her country country much better by the end. (So if you're American, I highly recommend this book!)
Otherwise, some good fiction books are:
Ender's Game (series)
Life as We Knew It
The Maze Runner (tetrology--Highly recommended, especially if you read and enjoyed The Hunger Games because it's rather similar)
