what can i do to move up the waiting list for section 8 help?

Hi I just Applied for section 8 in san Diego CA I got a confirmation number. We are 10 in our household (please don't judge) and I was wondering is there anyway of moving up the waitinglist once I get accepted. what I wanna know is there any loopholes of getting it faster. I hear about people that just applied getting them what can I do. Does it depend on family income, size what?

Thank You I appreciate it

Update:

see you just assumed that the people living with me are my kids. only two of them are my kids. we are an extended family. But Thanks for your judgment.

You are lucky San Diego Housing was even open for new applicants. They are usually closed in most large cities in California. Did you apply at San Diego City Housing as well as S.D. County? Two different agencies.

Section 8 preference on the waitlist goes for seniors and disabled, then families. You can expect an average of 7-9 years on the waitlist and by that time some of your household may have moved. No, thousands of others are on the waitlist like you.

You can ask about another housing program like Rural Housing or tax credit properties where a few units are reduced in rent but not 30% of your income. The amount of reduction depends on your family's income. I hope you reported all of the income or you are committing fraud.

You can also go on the public housing waitlist. If any of you are military and homeless there is a special program for that.

BTW, all household members on Sec 8 iin the same household must be related or married and employed unless disabled.

There are no loop holes to by pass everyone who has been waiting for years. You need to wait your turn like everyone else. If there were loop holes dont you think people who have waited 5 years or more would still be waiting? You might check a different type of housing program such as Shelter Plus Care, Project Self Sufficiency, HUD affordable apartments, transitional housing or call 211 and see what other housing options there are in your area.

They accepted your application. It isn't processed until your number comes up. You will not qualify. "extended family" does not qualify.

That said, no, you can not be moved down the list for family voucher due to new applicants. Since no one can be moved down, no one can be moved up. You would have to take the voucher from someone who waited years in order for that to happen.

Seniors and the disabled have priority over families. But even they can not live with "extended" family, only parents and minor children.

You won't get a voucher for 10 people that are not your kids. You have to wait your turn just like everyone else. You could get an education and a better job before your turn comes up. I did.

So you've "heard" about people getting it immediately?

    Doubt it.

Sorry for your situation - but you are no more special than anyone else who needs this help.
