MS Excel 2013 will read MS Excel 2003 just fine

maybe the disk is incompatible with your version of windows or your cd/dvd drive

is it a DVD RW or DVD RW+?

or it could be you have Excel 2013's "trusted locations" set too high

try going into Excel 2013's menu and change the trusted locations to everywhere

or better yet, try emailing yourself the file, then save the attachment to your documents

2013 is backwards compatible and should automatically read your older files. If you are getting an error message, post it and we'll be able to help... What might work is if you put the 2003 speadsheets on your desktop > open Excel > File > Open > navigate to your desktop and click on the file you want to read.

Is it on magnetic media? That stuff degrades with time, which can cause file corruption, and thus loss of data.
