Why is the NYC subway so dirty?
I know that my predecessors in Answers asked this but no one actually answered throughly; I know that the metro system began about 2 centuries ago (third or fourth oldest behind London Underground and Paris Metro and another one that I forgot), and over the years it served millions of passengers (and I'm talking about MILLIONS, which are served worldwide so its not much of a surprise lol), and over the years it will get crowded, cramped, dirty, crappy and OLD (YES, VERY OLD). But come to think of it; Seoul Metropolitan, Tokyo Metro, Beijing Subway and some others serve much more than what the Apple does and yet some of their metro subways (ESPECIALLY SEOUL, ITS SO SEXY!) are clean as Iceland.
London Underground is older than New York City Subway, but they're clean and looks pretty fixed everywhere, yet the city where I live in can't fix the problems? What's with the system? Can somebody please break this down and answer me?
Thx! :)
Oh btw, when I said "the city that I live in" meant NYC
Rose, I think I get some parts now; You said 24 hours of service nonstop. I checked some other "better" subway systems and they don't serve as long as NYC.

Possibly because:
The New York City Subway Sytem is one of the oldest subway systems in the world.
It is one of the most extensive public transportation systems in the world with 468 stations in operation The system contains 232 miles of routes translating into 842 miles including non-revenue trackage.
In 2012, the subway delivered over 1.65 billion rides, averaging approximately 5.4 million rides on weekdays, about 3.2 million rides on Saturdays, and about 2.5 million rides on Sundays. Usage of the system has been increasing over the last several years, especially because of rising gas prices and the subway's energy efficiency.
the New York City Subway is the busiest rapid transit rail system in the United States as well as the seventh busiest rapid transit rail system in the world. It offers rail service 24 hours per day and every day of the year

There really is no excuse. NYC has many unemployed persons who would be capable of cleaning the garbage along the tracks etc. as they do in other countries. It would also give those people wages. Any job can be a good job if done well. The streets also stink in the heat and as for the dog mess and urine smells!
Surely NYC Cleansing Department can use some of those little street cleaning machines for the sidewalks like they do in London? It's embarrassing for such a great city to be so dirty. The Paris Metro is also quite dirty :((
