Is reporting child neglect to DSS anonymous?
I have a friend who is on her second pregnancy, and doesn't even take care of her child. She smoked cigarettes with both pregnancies and is smoking Marijuana with her second pregnancy. Her son has such a bad rash that covers the entire diaper area and his legs, that it's bleeding, because she will let him sit in dirty diapers until someone else changes him. What I'm wanting to know is, is reporting a child neglect case to DSS anonymous? Will they inform her of who called? And what all is needed to make a report as well?

Generally, you can remain anonymous if you wish by simply not providing your contact information. DSS/DCF/DYFS will investigate independently. At least in the states I'm familiar with, The child welfare organizations must "substantiate" the allegations of abuse/neglect. They usually have a policy to NEVER release the identity of the reporter. It could, however, depend on the state you live in. Also, workers for those organizations can sometimes make a mistake and provide it. Investigations tend to be very heated and hostile. If they try to get your contact information and you don't want to provide it, just remain firm in not providing that information. Do not tell them your relationship to the other person, your name, your address, etc.
Keep in mind that some states make everybody a mandated reporter of abuse/neglect. You may be obligated to report.
The only thing you need in order to make a report is the information you have. It is up to them to investigate further.

Don't be such a chickensh***t. Those babies need your help. Tell DSS everything so they can help!!!!
Why do care what she thinks of you???? Just ask that your name be withheld from her. They will need to follow up with you.
