BMW problem?
I just got back from my trip to New Jersey from Malibu CA there and back. I'm back home and I got my BMW oil changed, tires changed, and rotated. I keep good upkeep on my cars so I usually don't have this problem. I went to get in it today and it took 4 times for it to start and when it did all the lights in the car kept dimming and brighting at the chug of the engine. This is 2014 BMW and I'm worried something is really wrong with it. I don't have time for this so I need some answers quick! Thanks!

IF this is a 2014 model you have WARRANTY ON IT so USE THAT! YOU MSUT USE ONLY LONG LIFE OIL Made by MOBIL ONE, PENNZOI LULTRA EURO< AMSOIL and a HANDFUL of others! The factory fill oil was PENTOSYNTH! YOU CANNOT USE VALVOLINE in a BMW ENGINE EVER At ANY TIME! you have OIL SPRAY JETS in the block and WAX BASED CHEAPO oil will RUIN THIS FEATURE as SLUDGE and TAR is made and CLOGS THINGS UP! Your question is VERY CONFUSING as a 2014 model is BRAND NEW and needs NOTHING YET. YOUR OIL CHANGE was the problem MAYBE! If they used the WRONG OIL IN IT you will get into trouble then! READ YOUR MANUAL and CONFRONT THE OIL CAHNGE PLACE with the FACT that you require MOBIL ONE 0W_40 or other APPROVED FULLY SYNTHETIC OIL with the LONG LIFE words printed on the OIL LABEL! Get a FREE CHARGE SYSTEM TEST at AUTOZONE! NIP THINGS in the BUD! I have re-done over FIFTY BMW ENGINES< and it is VALVOLINE USE and WAX BASED OILS that RUIN THEM! Same for AUDI, VW and BENZ and PORSCHE EUROEPAN GAS and OIL are different from ours here, and they do NOT USE WAX BASED JUNK OIL for auto use! Perhaps you have TAR and SLUDGE in your throttle body and IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE as well by now! ALSO you have a FALME TRAP also called the OIL SEPARATOR VALVE< that has a FILTER IN IT to collect SLUDGE and hold it! if it is FULL OF HARDENED SLUDGE it affects the AIR FLOW through your engine inside! This filter must be CHANGED at 100k mile or SOONER if there is SLUDGE INSIDE! You can tell by flipping over your OIL FILLER CAP to see if there is any WAXY CRUSTY WAVY tarry deposits on it! IF THERE IS, you need a FULL MOTOR FLUSH DONE and return to the PROPER OL TYPES! this IS not a push rod chevy or buick here! You have VANOS, Which is the BMW variable valve timing system! IT WILL SLUDGE OVER AND HARM ENGINE if WRONG OIL IS USED! PLEASE READ YOUR MANUALL and get any and all INFERIOR OIL Out of your precious ENGINE NOW< before it is TOO LATE!

#1. Take the car or 12 volt battery to any store other than Auto Zone where new batteries are sold. Ask for a free 15 second battery load test to see what the reserve amperage capacity is. Amperage spins starter motors not voltage.
#2. If your battary passes the load test or a new one has been installed, touch the battery terminals with an inexpensive volt meter set @ 20 volts with the engine running. if your alternator is charging properly the volt meter should read between 13.5 - 14.2 volts.
#3. Remove and clean the idle air control valve using CRC Throttle body Cleaner.
#4. Remove and clean the crankshaft position sensor which sends TIMED electrical impulses to the ignition coils to fire the spark plugs. Use the same CRC cleaner.
#5. Remove and clean the camshaft position sensor using the same CRC Cleaner.
#6. If either of these two sensors were dirty, it's time to switch your motor oil brand to Mobil1 which has very strong detergents to keep the inside of the motor clean.
