Getting a 6 week old puppy tomorrow... hasn't had deworming medicine yet from breeders... help!?
We are getting a six week old puppy tomorrow and the breeders told me that the puppys will not have had deworming medicine yet. I called the vet to schedule the puppies vaccines and deworming medicine and they said to bring the puppy in at 7 to 8 weeks and not to worry about the deworming until then... but everywhere I read it says that they should be dewormed at 2, 4, 6, and 8 weeks. I just don't want my puppy to get sick. Should I be concerned and get a second opinion from another vet? or will I be okay?

Do not take a puppy from a BYB. 6 wks. is way to young to be taken from mom and siblings and if it is a toy breed not before 10 wks. The vet. is right and it does no good to give the first puppy shot before 8-9 wks. The whole thing is a big red flag.
Responsible breeders would have already given the first puppy shot and dewormed the pup. BYB don't want to spend any money on the pups and just want the pups out as soon as possible for the next litter. I hope you haven't given any money yet.
Be smart and find a breeder that does it right. Everyone is in a hurry to get a new puppy but this should be as important as buying a new car. You want to do it right the first time and avoid any problems.

Don't buy the puppy. It is obviously coming from a BYB because no real breeder would let a puppy go at 6 weeks. No puppy should leave it's mother until it is between 8-10 weeks old.
They haven't started deworming etc., because they don't want to spend the money on the puppies.
I wouldn't get it. It's very likely that you will be buying a sick and antisocial dog because these people are not real breeders.
If you decide to get the puppy anyway, take it to the vet within 24 hours for a wellness check. Make sure that the puppy doesn't have Parvo or any other illness.
Puppies learn their socialization skills from their mother and litter mates during the ages of 8-10 weeks. The puppy wont be well socialized.

So far, i agree with everyone - pup is too young, this is obviously a backyard breeder, and as such worms are the least of your possible concerns.
I also have to add that there is no excuse to home a pup before eight weeks of age. Even if mom rejects the pup(s), the pup(s) aren't eating, etc etc a good breeder would keep them in the home TOGETHER for socialization purposes until at least eight weeks of age. With smaller breeds, ten to twelve weeks is better.
If you're spending the $$ on a breeder, it should be a decent one. Pups should be eight weeks or older when homed, they should be wormed and UTD on relevant vaccinations, they should be PUREBRED and REGISTERED with a legit kennel club, and the parents should be tested for relevant genetic diseases (and pups should be guaranteed against them for at LEAST four years.) And that's only the start of what to look for in a good breeder.
If you adopt a puppy from a legit shelter/rescue then the animal comes appropriately aged with worming and vaccinations and often times spay/neuter. You can find purebred pups in shelters/rescues. If you want to spend more money and buy from a breeder then at least make sure it's a good responsible one and not someone merely interested in profit or doing it "for fun". You won't wind up with a healthy stable dog.

Your puppy should get a check up the day you pick it up. The best scenario is to leave the pup til it's 8 weeks old. No decent breeder sells puppies at six weeks old without a proper worming regimen and first vaccines.

That is the least of your worries...puppies should NOT be away from their mothers until they are 8 weeks old for health and behaviour reasons and any REAL breeder knows that....what you are getting is a back yard bred pup.as I say the least of your worries you will be back on here within weeks asking how to stop the pup biting you and you can't afford the growing vet bills which is fairly normal with badly bred dogs..........

Everyone has already told you..... 6 weeks is just way too early. Don't buy this dog from this breeder....You'll end up with a heartbreaking situation.

DO NOT get this pup..... almost 100% likely it will have or already has Parvo....
BYB's love selling their mutts at this time & could care less if said pups die, they're 'bout the $$ alone.
Everything you've stated is a huge RED flag so please report this scum BYB & walk away!
A reputable breeder keeps their pups til at least 8 weeks & worms as well as vaccinates them.

first of 6 weeks is way to young to get a puppy... you should try to find more reputable breeders.
