2012 mercury 9.9 hp not being used?

I have a 9.9 hp motor that I hardly use. I bought it new in 2012. My question is should i be doing something with this motor if I never use it. Am I doing any harm just letting it sit in my basement. I plan to use it but just too busy with other things right now. This motor used only 1 hour water time. not even broken in yet. Thank you for any answers.

    Drain the fuel system after use if storing for more than 30 days.
