Do Subway "sandwich artists" employees actually know how to make a sandwich?

If I walk in to a Subway sandwich place, select a sandwich from their menu, ask for it, are they capable of putting a sandwich together without asking me a single question? (Yes, I know. That's one of the advantages of going to Subway, you can get a sandwich custom made exactly the way you want.)

I actually like Subway but sometimes I just want to go in there and have someone make me a sandwich instead of going through each little step with them and trying to figure out what the hell to put in a sweet onion chicken teriyaki. I mean I'm an idiot, I don't know what goes well with what. What dressings go well with these ingredients. They're the sandwich "artists" experts. Why do they even have a menu? If I ask for a 'California Club' make me a California Club, no questions asked.

Update:

The subway place that I go to has a few sandwiches that you can choose from and it tells you all the type of meats and ingredients that comes with it. The California Club has turkey, bacon and guacamole and I'm sure it also said lettuce and onion. And Engineering, you sound like a bitter sandwich "artist". I feel for you my friend.

Update 2:

You guys are missing the point of this question. Read it again. I know subway is great because you can tell them to put anything and everything they have available on a bread. Of course they're not mind readers and don't know what each customers like on their sandwich, neither do Jimmy Johns, Schlotzsky's or Quiznos. If I go in to a Jimmy John's I'm literally out in 10 seconds. They don't ask me a thing. I choose a sandwich from their list and it's done. Are they mind readers? No.

Unless you tell them EVERYTHING including veggies, if you want it toasted, etc., then how are they supposed to know? Like, if you told them the sub but nothing else then they wouldn't know. If you said everything, then yes they could do it.

Did you know that you're not the only person in the world? Did you know that they aren't going to kiss your @$$ by memorizing YOUR order and doing the same thing every time? It's quite an eye opening fact actually. I don't know if you realized this but different people have different taste buds. You might like a sub with $h*+ smeared on instead of mayo (which I hear you middle school dropouts love) but I may like the mayo. It depends.

EDIT: I'll take back the last paragraph (deleted already) because I'm not from CA. But, truth is, I'm looking at the reality of this situation.

EDIT 2: Did mccoyblues finally say something useful for the first time? They grow up so fast!

Most Subway restaurants I believe teach an abstract form of sandwich art.

What's so hard about choosing the ingredients you want on your sandwich? You know what you like and don't like--but the employee doesn't know that.

My biggest gripe about Subway isn't the employees, but rather the idiots in line ahead of me who have to turn it into a frickin' ordeal.

But I run into that at ALL fast food joints. I don't get outwardly irate about it, but I just keep thinking "Damn, you're just ordering fast food!"

I always tell the maker exactly how I want it made. I HATE the bun cut in a V. I want to cut in half, laid open, split into two and the goodies piled on it in a certain way. I have it made like I'd make it at home. I like lettuce on both the bottom bun and on top of all the fillings. I HATE it when there's no lettuce on the bottom, under everything else. Why do they build sandwiches like that?

What a stupid question by an ignorant person. We all know that Subway employees are mind readers, so I guess they should never ask any questions.

Choices are what makes a place like Subway successful.

If you are too stupid to tell them what you want to eat then just order ham and cheese on white bread.

I've been working at subway for 8 years and customers like you really irk me. If you see a sandwhich you like, choose it, then you tell what kind of cheese you want, the veggies you want and then the sauces/dressings. Incase you haven't noticed, we are not mind readers. we don't know what you like...if you want them to make it their way then tell them you don't care and to put what they want on it.
