Position of kidney?!?!?

Grays Anatomy stated that

''The inferior pole of Kidney are thinner and extend to within 2.5cm of the iliac crest''

I wonder, isnt kidneys located slightly above from our waist?

Why does the statement said it enter the iliac crest?

Right, they are located retroperitoneal and are definitely not located within the iliac crest. When I took gross anatomy, we did not use Gray's, but many books say different things. You just have to generalize a lot of it.
