Automatic VS Manual transmission?
Hi there. So here's the back story: I'm looking at getting a 2014 FR-S sometime within the next month and I'm having trouble deciding between an automatic or manual transmission. I know how to drive a manual, I just have never driven a manual vehicle as a daily driver. My father is saying get a manual, while my mother is saying get an automatic. Both parents have owned multiple sports cars in their days, and both have valid points that support their choice. What I'm asking people is which transmission would you suggest, and why? I'd like pros and cons to your decision as well. Thanks in advance.
The car will be used as a daily driver, mostly to get to and from work, but I experience very little to no traffic to and from work. I do enjoy frequent road trips as well. Just a bit more information

I live in big city where alot of traffic and we also have lots of hills and back roads. I own a manual. Traffic sucks because constant stop and go but what i do is just move super slow so by the time i crawl thru the distance car in front moves up again. Its really fun to drive back roads and stuff..
Source(s): Get manual. Easier and cheaper to fix if breaks too. - ?Lv 77 years ago
Consider where and how the car is to be driven... Is this a daily commuter where you're going to be stuck in stop-and-go city traffic for a couple of hours every day, or is this car mostly for pleasure and traveling, and cruising through the scenery and "fun" highways...
That SHOULD make your decision for you... Stuck in rush hour traffic... Get the automatic.
Driving the hills and canyons where you can have fun behind the wheel... Go with the manual!

Manual would be my choice if it were a personal car that I alone drove as they are more fun, cheaper, easier to fix, and more dependable (less to break).
Automatic would be my choice if others in the family who may/may not know how to drive manual were occasional drivers.
I have a manual car now for my work vehicle and the rest of my family struggles to drive it on occasions when the other car needs to be pressed into service. I don't know what a FR-S is but think if others will occasionally drive and their comfort level with manual transmission.
