2006 Dodge Dakota Bucking Violently...?

This morning I went outside to start my truck and let it warm up a bit since it was only about 35 degrees outside. As soon as I turned it on, the Check Engine light came on, but it was not idling badly and everything seemed to be normal. So after letting it idle for about 15 minutes, I hopped in and backed out of my drive way. When I shifted into 1st and took off the truck started bucking like crazy around 2500 RPMs. I shifted into 2nd quick and the same thing happened. I ran it up to 3rd gear and in each gear it did the same thing, bucking like a bull at 2500 RPMs. Any idea what could have caused it?

Additional info - I don't run the truck all that often, maybe once a week. Last time I ran it, the CEL was not on and everything ran fine. I have the 2006 Dodge Dakota SLT, 4.8 V8 with a 6-speed manual with about 104,000 miles on it.

Update:

@Mah Jen Boo - I don't have a code reader and don't live close to a garage that can check it. So please, with your superior brain power, tell me how I'm to get that code checked without driving it further and potentially damaging something beyond repair.

did it occur to your tiny little brain to go get the check engine light scan and see what the code is. any person with half a brain would have done that already.
