'97 Dodge Dakota transmission fluid is black?

I have a '97 Dodge Dakota with a faulty transmission. Hard to believe, huh?!

I bought the truck a couple of months ago and the trans was slipping and the fluid was very dark in color. I dropped the pan and changed the fluid and filter. It hardly slips now but the fluid turned black again a few days later.

Will changing the fluid again...and again,.. and maybe again purge the burnt fluid or should I be looking at rebuilding or replacing the transmission?

The truck has a V-8 engine with a 4-wheel drive train. I live in Florida and never use all wheel drive. The highest hill I climb is the curb at the end of my driveway.

Try a fluid swap and filter change on the trans. Check the fluid a couple months later and if it turns up black, your trannys shot. My best guess your trannys shot since its a dodge.
