  • How do I find out what model transmission fits in my Dodge Dakota?

  • '97 Dodge Dakota transmission fluid is black?

I have a '97 Dodge Dakota with a faulty transmission. Hard to believe, huh?!

I bought the truck a couple of months ago and the trans was slipping and the fluid was very dark in color. I dropped the pan and changed the fluid and filter. It hardly slips now but the fluid turned black again a few days later.

Will changing the fluid again...and again,.. and maybe again purge the burnt fluid or should I be looking at rebuilding or replacing the transmission?

The truck has a V-8 engine with a 4-wheel drive train. I live in Florida and never use all wheel drive. The highest hill I climb is the curb at the end of my driveway.

  • My Poulan riding lawn mower has oil in carb?

I have a Poulan riding lawn mower with a 14.5 h.p. Briggs and Stratton engine with an OHC. It has a 42" cutting deck but I don't think that has anything to do with the problem at hand. It's been running great lately. I rinsed off the underside of the deck like I always do before I put it away and then I covered it up.

I started it today and it blew blue smoke out the front end and quit running after 2-3 seconds. It started half a dozen times like that. I had accidentally put some oil and gas mixture in the last time I used it but it was nothing more than an ounce or so. Anyway, the plug had oil on it when I pulled it out. I cleaned it up and re-installed it. Then I took the air filter off and looked down into the carb and there was a fair amount of oil in there.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what broke or what happened. It was running fine. I put it away. I started it up a week later and that's what happened. HELP! :)

  • Drastic loss of gas mileage in 1993 Dodge Dakota?

I recently posed this question but nee to inquire again. I have a 1993 Dodge Dakota with a 3.9 Magnum V-6 engine and the gas mileage dropped almost over night from 17-18 m.p.g. to less than 10 m.p.g.

I am not getting any warning lights. I have replace the o2 sensor, EGR valve, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, gas cap, gas and oil filters and an oil change, IAC valve, any valve that connects to the carb/emissions system, thermostat and antifreeze, and replaced a couple of vacuum lines. There is no improvement in the gas mileage.

The timing is correct, the compression is good, there is no fuel leakage, and no vacuum leaks. The vacuum canister appears to be functioning properly, but not something that I think needs changing because I don't believe it would double my gas mileage. What am I missing here or what could be wrong that is failing to provide me with any warning codes?

  • How do I correct bad gas mileage in 1993 Dodge Dakota?

How do I correct bad gas mileage in 1993 Dodge Dakota? I'm only getting 10 m.p.g. and it seemed to happen overnight...from 17 to 18 m.p.g.

The engine compression is good. The coils are good. The cat converters and exhaust are solid. The timing is right. I'm on my third tank of non-ehtanol gas, not to mention some high prices gas additive from NAPA.

I installed new plugs and wires, cap and rotar, EGR valve, air and fuel filter, all the other little miscellaneous filters, and MAP sensor.

I did not change the O2 sensor, mostly because it's expensive and I'm not getting any warning codes on the dash. IF I change it, "how much" will it increase my mileage? I'm not going to bother with it for an extra 1 m.p.g. 11 isn't much better than 10. I know the engine is running extremely rich because of the black exhaust and the color of the plugs, and it isn't oil.

I'm just at a loss here. What am I missing or what can I do to get my mileage up to at least 16 m.p.g.

  • Problems with 1993 Dodge Dakota A/C system?

I'm having problems with my 1993 Dodge Dakota A/C system. Here's the scenario. I took installed a new compressor and took the truck in yesterday to have it charged up with freon. It blew cold air all day and night but the mechanic told me before I left that I needed a new clutch fan.

I started the truck up this morning and the A/C system was only blowing out hot air. I put a new clutch fan on today along with an expansion valve and re-charged the system. It's still only blowing hot air though.

So, the compressor (and it does engage and cycle), the expansion valve and new switch, and clutch fan are all new along with the re-charge and the system just blows hot air. The radiator system is full and working properly too. What am I missing here or what else could it be?

Please, include diagrams and as much information as possible when responding. It's getting too expensive now to keep installing all these hit and miss components. Thanks for looking!

  • 1993 Dodge Dakota transmission problems?

I have a 1993 Dodge Dakota with an automatic transmission that is slipping very bad. The truck has 187,000 miles on it and I don't want to have this trans rebuilt, so my question is, what late/later model Dakota transmission will fit my 1993 model with the Magnum V-6 motor? I have to think that new would be better.

  • How many professional pool players are there....?

How many professional pool players (separate the two groups of men and women) are there that currently make a living at playing pool? You can include the people that make their money through appearances and endorsements but their primary income has to come from playing pool with a professional tour or tours. I need as much information as I can muster for this subject.

  • An answer to an answer?

straight_shooter526 & Vegas Matt: Thanks for answering my question. Both of your text seems almost identical so I'll just address the key points in the "question" side of this format since it will allow me the space to do so.

I do not necessarily agree with the APA rules in their entirety but I do so without argument or confrontation because the organization plays by a standard that does not change regardless of who or where you are playing an APA sanctioned event. I can speak on some APA rules with a reasonable amount of certainty but others I can only offer my humble opinion.

Making the eight on the break/losing by scratching after making the eight. You have to ALWAYS keep in mind that the APA was created and designed for low or average skilled players. This rule falls under the category of having only a limited amount of time to start and finish a match, so both scenarios quickly diminish the amount of time it took to complete that particular game. You also have to remember that there are five matches to be played in an evening with each match ranging from three to nine games each.

I concur with Matt that having to take what you make on the break displaces the advantage to the higher skill level player and prevents them from running racks against the lower skilled players.

Marking the pocket! Now there's an APA rule that was designed just to start a fist fight at the close of an otherwise fun evening. Here's the setting. We started playing at 7:30 and the fourth match didn't start until will after 11:00 and both teams have been drinking...a lot. A shooter is on the eight ball, he points his cue toward the intended pocket and makes the shot. His inebriated counterpart isn't paying attention and swears on his mother's grave that they pointed their cue toward another pocket. The "mark your pocket" rule was designed for nothing more than the sake of clarity and to keep the matches moving...and to cut down on the fist fighting. :)

I think I addressed the slop rule in one of my responses to another question. It falls back on time constraints for one thing. Some lower skill level players can't hit the broad side of a ball with the table, much less have the aptitude to call and make their shot. Secondly and what I think is more important, is the elation and joy of pocketing a ball. Watch a lower skilled player sometime to see how they react to making a ball when there is some complexity to the shot. Never mind calling the shot, it's just such a moral booster toward their game. It gives them great pride and promotes an attitude of wanting to learn more about the sport. Keep in mind once again, the league was designed for them.

I don't have much of an argument one way or the other about slop or having to call your pocket/shot. I'm not as good as some at the game but I'm better than most, so I consider myself a somewhat accomplished player. From that vantage point, I usually know what your next three shots are going to be before you do. Meaning, I play a gentleman's game. I know what your intentions were and it is of no import to me if your ball clipped my ball on the way into the pocket. I'm happy at leaving it at calling your pocket. If you arbitrarily "slop" a ball in, well, what goes around comes around.

THE IS NO PENALTY FOR THE NUMBER OF DEFENSIVE SHOTS in the APA! You can have five or fifty innings in a single game. After your first ten matches and up to the current date whether you've been playing APA for two years or twenty years, you have an established a profile, as does your opponent. So let's say you have an odd game where you have shot (literally) thirty safety shots and that's what the score keeper marks down. When the League Operator inserts those safety shots from the score sheet information into the system, the system will automatically apply the "average" number of safeties you normally shoot in a game. i.e., If your profile says you shoot an average of five safeties per game, that's what goes into the the system. The system recognizes flukes or unusual games.

The ball counting is simply the method a league uses for handicapping their player. I think it's an inaccurate system at best, and one of which the APA does not use in calculating player handicaps. They system is far more complex that most players know. It is not a simple matter of wins/losses and innings. (contact me directly and I have some information that should intrigue you about the APA handicap system)

I was amused about the scenario of a playing getting a pat on the back for running seven balls and missing or getting stuck on the eight. I am quite certain that the accolades come from lower skill level players that were just impressed by a great performance. It's a moral booster for everyone. We, conversely, know that the player just sold the farm and hope that they learned something from the

There have been several questions lately about "rules" for eight ball. I think most everyone knows that I play by the APA (American Poolplayers Association) rules.
