Are there any birds that look similar to a roadrunner?

Last winter we had a mild winter and then after that a hot summer. I live just outside of Chicago in the west burbs and while fishing at a lake I seen what I thought to believe was a roadrunner jumping and running along the shoreline. It had the distinctive blue spiked hair on its head. Do roadrunners migrate this far north or was I seeing a bird that looks like one? Or possibly someones pet that escaped? It was a decent sized bird but a bit smaller than the ones I see in videos on youtube.

Blue? I live in Canada, so I don't know much about roadrunners, but looking them up, they look like they have brown/black-speckled crests? A blue crest makes me think of a kingfisher or maybe some sort of heron, but they don't really look anything like roadrunners.
