Does anyone else think the 2015 Mustang does not represent a mustang at all?
It's still a nice car, but it does not embody the mustang at all. It's just a newer car the Ford created and slap on the Mustang badge on it. What do you guys think?
All Great answers. The answers clearly shows that everyone has their own interpretation of iconic Ford Mustang. I think I'll let the voters decide, since the majority represents what most people think of the Mustang.

Years ago Ford had an advertising line something like this-
Every one else is giving you a old car with a new name,
But we have a new car with an old name for you!
Which was for the down sized Ford Fairlane.
So Ford is bringing you a Mustang with a "company" style grill! I am not sure if they didn't modify the Mustang look to fit the rest of the line first and then put it on the Mustang or now. But it is the new official look to all the Fords as far as the grill goes.
Am I going to buy one- NO! I did own a Mustang II, but only because I couldn't find a used Pinto at the time. I still would take a 63 Fairlane over a Mustang for looks. I don't need a car that advertises I like performance. I want a car that gives performance with out drawing attention to itself or at least one that gets underestimated by the competition.
So if I was in the market for a car, it would be a Ford. But I am not going to say which one. It is a blast to drive a car that will out perform the Mustang, that the cops don't give a second thought when running a speed trap.

Well first let me ask you what a Mustang represents. I always thought the Mustang represented a high performance muscle car that you could live with and afford. I think this car embodies the spirit of the Mustang more than it ever has. It will the best performing Mustang ever (at least compared to previous GTs) and still has that gorgeous fastback styling and a rip snorting all American V8.
The Ford Mustang has been all over the board for it's entire history. Ford made these cars fit the style at the time period. Between the original 64 1/2 and 70 models, the size increased in all directions and horsepower nearly doubled. Then in 71 it grew even more. When the Mustang II came out in 74 it was built for an America in the midst of a gas crisis. The fox body came out and it was again a departure from the original with its "european" styling. Never consistant
Make no mistake, you don't have to like the car, but to say it isn't representative of what a Mustang should be is inaccurate.

The original mustang was a modern car, not a copy of a 40 year old one. The new Mustang will be huge improvement.

I disagree - it doesn't have to look old (like the current one) to be a Mustang. This will be by far the best handling Mustang ever made - it's about time this car had a modern chassis.
And to the other answer, the Mustang came out in the mid 60's, not the 50's.

I do not like it. I love MUSTANGS but somehow the 2015 is not as adorable as past years. I have a 2012 and it is a peach!

TAKE THE PONY OUT OF THE GRILL AND YOU HAVE A FUSION COUPE, AND UNLIKE OTHER NEWBEES TO THE MUSTANG THAT THINK THERE OPINION MATTERS , I OWN 2 1ST GEN AND 1 2ND GEN
COBRA , WERE JUST IN THE ERA OF BAD BODY STYLE LIKE THE FOX BODY WAS BUT THEY CAME BACK FROM THAT, SO MAYBE BY 2020 THEY WILL LOOK LIKE A MUSTANG AGAIN.

Does not embody the Mustang at all? I would be willing to bet, if you showed a rear/side view of the new Mustang, most people would instantly be able to recognize it as a Mustang. The interior has a lot of retro-Mustang cues. The 5.0L engine is the same one that came out nearly 4 years ago, mid way throughout 2010.
Just because the front end somewhat resembles the Ford Fusion, that doesn't mean, the new model doesn't embody the Mustang.
Older generations of Mustangs were re-engineered chassis, which shared platforms and components with other Ford platforms, like the Falcon, Fairlane, Pinto, Fairmont, Mercury Zephyr, Lincoln LS, Ford Thunderbird, and Jaguar S-Type. It's my understanding that the new Mustang was designed from the ground up as a Mustang and was not built on another existing For platform. If that's true, then the 2015 would technically be the very first "pure Mustang".

Personally I don't like the look. It may perform better but it seems like its try too hard to look like a fusion mixed with some European car.
The 09-14 Mustangs had the best look to along with the 99-04's ( although those should have all had grill deletes and chin spoilers like the Mach 1)
The 09 ish -14 Mustangs kinda reminded me of the late 60's fastback and I love that look.
I don't really like the new one. I doesn't look like a real Mustang to me.

Well the original Mustang back in the 1950s was a rebodied Falcon on the same floor pan with many of the same components and in some cases, the same engines
