on my room mates computer an hour glass appears with the arrow. how do you get rid of the hour glass?

what does he have to do to eliminate the hour glass and have only the arrow appear.

we are both novices at computers so simple and easy terms, please. thank you.

    It usually means that something is loading, but if it won't go away then im not sure what it is, I hoped that helped! (:

    Let it finish whatever it is it's doing. The hourglass is a busy sign.
