Can a smart phone still be used like a Kindle after I have terminated service with the phone company I originally used it with?

I have gone to a simple flip phone but I have all these great books that I purchased and downloaded n it. It has a great screen and is a perfect size for my granddaughter to read with.

Update:

Yes I purchased it That is why I still have it.

Update 2:

And tomorrow I guess I will just buy another book from Amazon and see.

I think many smart phones can just be used over Wifi with no service IF you bought the phone.

If you did not buy the phone and instead received it as part of a cell plan contract deal, then I don't know. Try it and see.
