Help writing a story, need people with knowledge of guns and bullets?
Hello, I'm writing a story where, in the future of America the country is shattered and divided up into factions. Most of whom have reverted to using swords, pikes, and weapons like that. So here's the problem. I need some reason why people stopped using guns. It could have been sweeping gun regulation back when the country was intact, or it can be something like an crucial ingredient in gunpowder ran out, any suggestions welcome. I just need a technologically set world but, for some reason, guns have become less commonplace. Any Suggestions Welcome

This wouldn't stop people from using black powder guns (true historic models like flintlocks or matchlocks, not state-of-the-art T/C modulars which again depend on modern primers and non-corrosive propellent like Pyrodex). However, black powder arms are not nearly as speedy or reliable, nor as accurate as metal cartridge weapons, so their suitability for combat is limited. You'd have to come up with a reason why their use would be strongly discouraged. Like, the noise attracts the zombies or something...
