He's a hero icon in action movies, albeit a cheesy one. So, he's got both things going for him, being a former sport champion (karate) and a wooden actor that always plays roles that make him as a person look egotistical. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but he did make his own bed.

In real life, he was something like an 8th degree black belt in Karate. And because he always kicks butt in his movies and tv shows.
