Where can I get a Windows 8.1 ISO file?

So, here's the story. I got a computer for Christmas but it's hard drive failed, so I need to get another hard drive and put Windows 8.1 on it. Only problem is that because the hard drive has failed, I don't have access to the product code for Windows 8 nor did the computer come with anything that has the product key on it. What am I supposed to do and how can I get a Windows 8.1 ISO file?

A CoA sticker may be under the battery. If there is no Product Key, then it is integrated into the motherboard and is retrieved automatically during installation.  You should first request installation or recovery media from the laptop manufacturer.

You may need to install Windows 8 and then upgrade to 8.1.

The laptop had either Windows 8, Windows 8 Pro, or Windows 8 Enterprise, 32-bit or 64-bit, and you'll need to reinstall the same edition and architecture for the Product Key to be accepted.

  • I think it's free in the Windows appstore if you already have Win. 8.

Contact the manufacturer and get a restore disc. That will restore the PC to like when it was first new with all the manufacturer's installed programs.

First install Windows 8 → then UPDATE to 8.1.
