Bad oil change for 2014 BMW M5?
At the end of my trip from San Fransico to Manhattan I stopped at a mechanic in New Jersey and just did the typical repairs like tire rotation and oil change. During my way back my car over heated and chugged a lot. The manual says most oil is ok to put in the engine so what could be wrong? If you have an idea can you tell me what it is and if i should just get a new one or a new engine? (I never got the warranty, the mechanic put "standard oil" in the engine, and I'm just wondering what could be wrong. Thanks!)

Sounds like you're new to bmw or at least the M models. First, all maintenance and repairs are covered for first 4 years so briny it to bmw dealer.
M5 takes fully synthetic oil, not regular oil (the precise viscosity will be in manual). Mine takes 10W-60. As rudely stated above, you never rotate tires on these cars since the rear tires are bigger than the fronts -- I'm surprised that the width of the rear tires even fit in the front fenders, sand that you could turn the front wheels.
Recommendation: get it to BMW service center really ASAP!! Tire rotation shouldn't be big deal. But wrong oil is major concern. Hopefully NJ mechanic provided receipt with details about work completed and parts used. That will help bmw techs plot course of action for you. Not sure why you didn't get all the service booklets with car, but you can get replacements from dealer. READ THRU RECOMMENDED SERVICE INTERVALS AND COMPONENTS. IF NOT CLEAR ABOUT TYPE OF OIL ASK BMW DEALER. Good luck.

Jake,
Quit trolling and get a life. Your nonresistance wife doesn't driver a Mecedes and your imaginary son does not drive a Ferrari. Go back to "comparing Ford and Toyota" for your term paper and quick wasting other people's time.

If you were stupid enough to have "standard" motor oil put in the crankcase despite the presence of (warning) stickers under the hood, if you were dumb enough NOT to read the Owner's Manual and have a "mechanic" do things, not an authorized BMW Center, that's really tough.
And besides, an oil change and tire rotation are NOT "typical repairs", anyway. How did you manage to rotate the tires when the front and rears are entirely different sizes?
Source(s): I smell a troll. Go play "pretend" elsewhere, Sluggo. @hugh G: it's indeed unfortunate you are not sagacious enough to spot an imposter. God help you in real life. If someone tries to sell you the Brooklyb Bridge, walk away briskly... - Robert MLv 77 years ago
