What really kills Willy in the death of a salesman?

I am trying to understand more of the concept of how he really died?

    The direct "cause" was that he drove into a tree, although this question is more about why he did it and what built up to that.

    His death was the ultimate result of his persistent delusions and aspirations to something greater. Throughout the play his aim was always for him, and later his sons, to achieve great success (becoming businessmen or something to that effect). While that delusion basically breaks down around him during the play, and ultimately is revealed to be a hollow dream, Willy is unable to accept it.

    He eventually kills himself so that the life insurance money can be used to fund Biff's business ambitions (even though Biff gave up on them). Ultimately, his delusional aspirations killed him.
