Chemistry: Oxidation-Reduction Lab Questions?

Is it possible for one substance to be an oxidizing agent in one reaction but a reducing agent in another? If so, give an example.

    Yes, it can.

Take H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide). It can act as an oxidizer:

    2 Fe2+ + H2O2 + 2 H+ → 2 Fe3+ + 2 H2O

    or as a reducer:

    2 KMnO4 + 3 H2O2 → 2 MnO2 + 2 KOH + 2 H2O + 3 O2
