Why does the UK not introduce EU-style ID cards?

It would be so much easier to carry a credit card-sized document in your wallet than have to carry around a passport to travel around Europe.

    Because we Britons refuse to be categorized in any way and see a State ID card as an infringement upon our liberties. Here in London the most important thing we possess is our anonymity - but even that is being drained away slowly.

    They had them; you could get national ID cards voluntarily; however once the new government took over the National ID Register was destroyed and the ID cards were declared as invalid.
