The surgery is a vaginectomy, which can be done through abdominal, vaginal, or peritoneal incisions depending on the involvement of the lymph nodes.

Vaginal cancer is rare, but there is such a thing.

It's quite possible, plus, if she's anything like me, she can be quite graphic and liberal with her cancer sarcasm.

Occasionally the only way to control a cancer of a woman's reproductive tract, is to remove a woman's uterus and ovaries, and most of the vagina.

I believe you are either referring to Ovarian Cancer or more likely Cervical Cancer. With Cervical cancer the doctor may need to do a "Hysterectomy" which is the removal of the uterus and the cervix but it is impossible to remove the vagina (the internal organ/canal for sex, birth and menstruation). Part of the vagina may be shortened but there still would be a vagina.

With Ovarian cancer the ovary or ovaries may have to be removed and sometimes this includes a hysterectomy.

Source(s): I have had several female friends who have had hysterectomies and although their reproductive organs are moved, they still have ALL their normal female genitalia.

It is possible that she has a cancer that has been there growing for sometime and has spread . Yes, sometimes a woman will have to have all of her female organs removed, including the vagina.
