question about usps international?
I've looked this up and never got a straightforward asnwer, but I ordered a package from Amazon, and its coming from Guangzhou China to Ohio. The problem is, Amazon said it has shipped, but when I track it on Usps, its still stuck in "pre-shipment" and "origin post is preparing to dispatch this item" since the 24 of April, and today is may 4. Is this not updating because its going overseas and wont update until it reaches the us, or has it really not shipped yet. I believe I got the 18-28 day shipping on Amazon which was my only choice. And on Amazon, it still says departed from facility.

Usps is incredibly frustrating. I rarely bother with checking my package status updates because the majority of the time it's incorrect.
Judging by this scenerio I'm going to say that your package was mailed from its place of Origin but is still in China or its somewhere on the East coast and will arrive tomorrow.
Oh the joys of USPS

USPS has no idea where this is because it hasn't entered the US postal stream yet. When Amazon says it has shipped, they mean it has been turned over to a local trucker who will bring it to the port of Guangzhou. Depending upon where the item actually originated (it might be Guangzhou or it might be someplace else way west in China), delivery to Guangzhou port may take from 2 to 7 days. Then it has to be containerized and loaded onto a plane (assuming it's coming by air, not sea). This process can take another 3-5 days.
So far, roughly 10 days have passed and your item still is in China and USPS still is not in control of it.
Then it flies to the US (one more day), where it's turned over to US Customs. It can sit there for another several days and only after it's cleared Customs is it turned over to USPS. Nothing is scanned while it is in transit or in Customs.
So it can be 2 weeks more or less before USPS is actually in control of it and in a position to scan it.
And that is why you haven't had any USPS updates since April 24. So if you actually get tracking information before May 8 or so, you'll be very lucky.
Furthermore, just because an item hasn't been scanned, doesn't mean it hasn't moved. Actually tracking has nothing to do with the movement of an item. Tracking merely tells you where the item has been, not where it is or where it's going.

u need to be patient,i am work in Chinese shipping company, and i know more about your questions. As your case,i think your goods is shipped by the air mail, and this shipment's another name is super save shipment, cheap but very slow, when it delay,it Will take more than one month, and your tracking number status is meaning the goods still in China,it will update when it is arrived in USA,it seems your goods need more time to your hands now,so u need more patient.
