Was it rude of her to say anything?

One of my neighbors, whom I have cooked many, many things for her, has now made me feel bad.

She earlier this week, screamed across the store that she was buying 2 steaks to cook me dinner Wednesday. Just Tuesday, she called again and said she was cooking them tonight, Wednesday. Well, I sat here waiting for a knock on the door, or a call saying they were ready. I got NOTHING! No call to say OH I don't want to cook, or even a knock on the door to say she was sorry, but too lazy to cook.

Is she or isn't she being rude?

I fell I'd of been the rude one, if I'd called her and asked where my dinner was. :-(

Yes, it was very rude of her to invite you and then not come through.

But when she didn't call, you should have called her and said something like, "are we still on for dinner tonight?" There is nothing ride about doing that. You had to find out so that you could decide what to eat.

If she told you twice that she would cook you steak on Wednesday, she obviously really meant to do it. You don't know that the reason it didn't happen is that she didn't want to cook; any kind of accident might have cropped up to prevent her doing it. Of course she should have called you to say sorry, she couldn't do it after all, but for all you know she was at the hospital getting her broken arm splinted. Or driving to help out in some family crisis. Or having to stay late at work unexpectedly. Or anything you can think of. People don't always remember to call to cancel things in an emergency.

Of course it wouldn't have been rude for you to have called her, provided you didn't make it sound like 'Oi! Where's the dinner you promised me then???' but just wanted to know if something had prevented her.
