Pope urges "legitimate redistribution" of wealth by the state to poor in spirit of generosity?
If that is the case shouldn't the state start with taxing the Catholic Church. Since none of the Churches income is derived from work and is all gifts, I would think and 80% tax rate on all income and no exception from property taxes would be about right. Surprised the Pope didn't suggest that. Shouldn't the Church be setting the example for redistribution. I bet selling the Vatican would bring in a couple of nickels too he could give away.

Perhaps if there are no longer poor that would be a good idea. However today the Church feeds, clothes, houses, educates and gives medical care to more people than any entity on earth. Until everyone is rich because of redistribution it is best that we continue to let the Church do what society and government does not for the poor. Where would the poor turn without the Church and its charitable activities.
When the Pope speaks about governmental systems he seem extremely naive and uninformed about the history of socialism in regards to its failing to succeed despite the governments tyrannical enforcement of such policies. Governmental tyranny against the people is not the answer for the poor among us which Jesus said would always exist. Jesus taught charity and not confiscation.
God bless!

if it wasn't for the catholic Church and other mainstream churches you would be paying higher taxes it is a well known statistic that the churches help out at least 10% of the population , so next time you are in strife , ring your nearest St.Vincent De Paul society or any other mainstream church for your food parcel and other help

I think its great. I've wanted a redistribution of wealth myself for a long time now. I want the governments of the world to tax their citizens by force and then redistribute that wealth by taxing the rich even more and giving to the poor via poverty programs. I want wealth to be redistributed so much that everyone is middle class.

You are wrong when you state that all income is from gifts.
The Vatican has its own bank which has an investment portfolio running into billions.
The Catholic church's wealth is immeasurable when you take into account the assets and land it owns.
It will be interesting to see how much of that he gives to the poor

What the Pope really needs to do is sell EVERYTHING the Catholic Church has, give it all to the poor, and then follow Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Pope Francis is indeed a hypocrite. Sans the euphemism "legitimate redistribution of wealth," what the pope and other state socialists actually mean is "extortion of labor fruits, enforceable in escalating order of threats, additional extortion (aka fines), kidnapping (aka jail), and ultimately death if you resist any of the previous measures."
I don't even know what "legitimate redistribution of wealth" means. That makes about as much sense as "legitimate rape" or "legitimate slavery."
