Unfair Disciplinary Meeting at work?

Hi guys i need your help. I'm from the uk and i work for a company Called Liverpool Victoria it is my job to sort the post in our department. Normally it takes two of us however the other girl is on holiday for 3 weeks :( so i havent been able to do it all. i have been asking the deputy managers for help almost everyday and recieved no help cause everyone is too busy so its all pilling up so i have to start coming in early (unpaid) and finishing late to get as much of it done. so i have prioritized the post how i ave been show to however in the (unimportant) bust which i have put last over cheques and apps there have been policy acceptances how ever we have a rule here if we dont give a customer money in 7 days we have to pay them £1000 each os we have had to pay out £14,000.00 which isnt good. however my manager is saying she didnt know i was sturggling when i clearly was so it all falls on her head or mine. however my disciplinary meeting is with her so it can only go one way i dont know what to do

can i request it is held with someone else + Thankyou for your time

You should see your union rep. and get them to come to the disciplinary with you, you have quite a strong case if the managers will back you up.

Hmm I'm insured with L&V. If the job requires 2 people, and there is only 1 of you, then it is obvious it is going to take twice as long.

Your Manager is at fault here, she should know this. Only go over her head if she disciplines you. Wait and see.

It was your manager's job to ensure that the post was properly resourced when the other girl went on holiday, and if she failed to do that and did not notice you were swamped that is not your fault. The only grounds she could have for disciplining you are:- failure to highlight that you were not coping, failure to actually do a fair day's work, or poor judgement on which mail you processed and which you ignored. Calmly think about each of those issues and be prepared to have a quiet rational discussion about them if they are raised. Your manager knows she has failed, but don't let her shift the blame onto you.

If you have the disciplinary meeting with someone else it could backfire. It might appear you are going over her head and she will just deny any blame. If they do a time and motion study they should know how long it takes to do a job. It is essential that you can prove you are busy and not taking any timeouts. It might be this isn't the job for you if they can't hear your side of the story.Don't be worried, speak clearly and don't get angry.
