how to get the rights to a story/book?

I want to buy the rights, or try, to a story.

The author died a long time ago, early 1900's.

But I have no idea who has the rights or family member.

The author is O.Henry

Also I'm 19, I don't know if there is an age requirement.

Figuring out who owns the rights to a dead author's work can be quite difficult if he isn't still popular. But O. Henry died in 1910, meaning that his work is now out of copyright, so anyone is free to do whatever they want with it.

If the story was still in copyright, your age would be irrelevant as long as you were legally an adult and able to enter into contracts on your own behalf.
