I think things are getting better there, and I'd be looking to move there this summer. Single, no family.

Midtown is the new hip place to live. Downtown lofts and apartments are also hot. I don't think either of those areas are cheap though. Indian Village, Boston-Edison, Palmer Park, and Rosedale Park are traditionally some of the best neighborhoods in Detroit.

Downtown is the only area showing improvement! But one must remember you are surrounded the most dangerous areas in the U.S. One hot summer and things can !
