Who is teaching you from The Principals of Information Security book? That's a terrible book. http://www.amazon.com/Principles-Information-Secur... Scroll down and read the reviews. If you want to learn something usable go take a SANS class. Just getting the GSEC SEC401 will get you a good job, and it's only one test.
